Happy Easter
Christ on the Cross, at the moment of expiration, with the Virgin and Saint John, and at the foot of the Cross, the Magdalene. Probably originally above the Annunciation, in the retable of the Colegio of Doña Marνa. This painting and the Annunciation are the two widest of the series. Already, in Santo Domingo el Antiguo, the artist had sensibly related together in composition the two central paintings of the high altar, the Assumption and Trinity. Again, there is this compositional relationship of the two paintings, but there is also something more in this bringing together of the two so diverse yet intimately related themes of the Virgin's reception of the Holy Ghost, and Christ's giving up of the Holy Ghost. One subject represents one of the Joys of the Virgin, and the other incorporates one of Her Griefs. Each painting is divided horizontally in three. The figure of Christ of the Expiration is a continuation upwards of the central zone of the Annunciation with the Flames and the Dove; the figure of the Archangel Gabriel has its counterpart in the figure of Saint John; and the Virgin of Joy appears above as the Virgin of Grief. This painting of the Crucifixion is one of the great interpretations of the subject in painting and almost inevitably brings to mind two other great Crucifixions, Grόnewald's of the Isenheim Altar and Giotto's of the Arena Chapel. El Greco has introduced more of those symbols embodying spiritual emotions: the clamouring angels with outstretched arms encircling the Body of Christ - strangely recalling Giotto's painting - and the remarkable figure of the angel at the foot of the Cross.
With this wonderful painting by El Greco I wish you 'Happy Easter'. I am going to church in a while. Wish you a spiritual time till Sunday.

The Toybox

Picasso's Gentleman with a Pipe and Flowers
Jane Eyre - My latest book

Jane Eyre is a plain-looking orphan with a fiery spirit. She is being raised along side her three cousins under the watch of a cruel aunt who despises her. When Jane tries to stand up for herself, she is shipped off to Lowood, a low-end boarding school for the underprivileged. Conditions at the school were so horrible that many of Jane’s classmates died of consumption and other diseases.
After many years at Lowood, Jane decides to venture outside of the academic world and to seek employ as a governess. She is brought unto staff at Thornfield manner, under the peculiar and secretive Mr. Rochester, in order to supervise the master’s young French ward, Adele. Jane meets Rochester under odd circumstances. She continues to be both intrigued and baffled by her master. Eventually, her curiosity turns into feelings of love. The reader will find herself believing that Jane’s affections for Rochester are returned, though there is no clear evidence of how he is feeling.
The book is a romantic novel which will be enjoyed by both teenager girls and older women. I don't think that the book is of any interest to boys as it looks like today's love stories, thought writtern in a very elaborate language.
I am back
I haven't written for a long time but that doesn't mean I'm not here. I just had wonderful summer holidays and they didn't include any internet. I travelled to many places and I had the time of my life. But now school has started and I'm back at my desk ready for a new school year. I love holidays but I also love school (Not the exams, though).
I'll be with you soon friends with all my news. I 've caught a cold and my nose is a bit of runny. Let's hope it's not catchy.
Be back soon

a passage to india
I haven't blogged lately because my teacher of english gave me a book to read. It is called the passage to india by Forster.
The book is set in India and it tries to explain the relations between the Indians and British colonists. Two British ladies visit India and one Indian doctor suggests a trip to some caves. However, an unfortunate event destroys the excursion and friendship between the Indian doctor and the British ladies is destroyed.
Here is the summary of the novel taken by http://classiclit.about.com/od/passagetoindia/fr/aa_passage.htm
The main incident of the novel is the accusation by an English woman that an Indian doctor followed her into a cave and attempted to rape her. Doctor Aziz (the accused man) is a respected member of the Muslim community in India. Like many people of his social class, his relationship with the British administration is somewhat ambivalent. He sees most of the British as enormously rude, so he is pleased and flattered when an English woman, Mrs. Moore, attempts to befriend him.
Fielding also becomes a friend, and he is the only English person who attempts to help him--after the accusation is made. Despite Fielding's help, Aziz is constantly worried that Fielding will somehow betray him). The two part ways and then meet many years later. Forster suggests that the two can never really be friends until the English withdraw from India.
In total I have to say that it was an interesting book. One can clearly see the feelings of the indians who were conquered by the British. Indians loathe the discipline and cold heart of the British and the British colonists hate the emotions which rule the lives of the Indians. The end is quite sad and as the writer suggests there is no future in the relations between the two nations unless the British leave India.
It took me a lot of time to read it and I can't say that it was very enjoyable but it helped me a lot with my english and it was something different.
